It's that time of year again for the Vogue Fashion Fund's Annual CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) awards! The CFDA is a not-for-profit association whose main purpose is to advance the status of fashion design as a branch of American art and culture along with other progressive outlooks. In addition to hosting the annual awards, the organization is committed to nuturing the development of the American fashion industry's future designers.
The council presents awards to many up-and-coming as well as distinguished designers whom show great promise or excellence in their crafts. Some of these prestiguous awards include: Womeswear Award, Menswear Award, Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, Emerging Talent for Ready-To-Wear and International Award. Some well know winners from recent years past include the likes of Marc Jacobs, Céline, Rag & Bone, Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, Burberry, Jason Wu, and Louis Vuitton.
This year's awards will be held in New York City on June 4th. This year Tommy Hilfiger will receive the prestigous Lifetime Achievement award for his 30 plus years in the industry. Rei Kawakubo will be receiving the International Award for her work with Commes des Garcons. Amidst the iconic award winners is also Hollywood's leading man Johnny Depp who snags the Fashion Icon Award for his eccentric personal style.
The awards will be extra speical this because for the first time ever they will be aired for public viewing exclusively on Style.com that next day on June 5th, 2012 at 12pm. Make sure to tune in to the CFDA Awards to see fashion at it's best!
